Aurasma
AURASMA
A definition (from Wikipedia) Aurasma is HP Autonomy's augmented reality platform. It is available as an SDK or as a free app for iOS and Android mobile devices. Aurasma's image recognition technology uses a smartphone's or tablet's camera to recognise real world images and then overlay rich media on top of them in the form of animations, videos, 3D models and web pages. Both businesses and individuals use Aurasma to create and share their own augmented reality experiences as well as to discover hidden digital content around them. Teachers are among the most active group using the platform.
When I first discovered Aurasma it reminded me of the painting that hung in the stairwells of the boarding house in Harry Potter. Of all the digital technologies I have used in class - this is one that always seems to come with a 'rush' of ideas - and then I tend to spend MANY hours putting it together… The effect can be stunning and the more I have used it the more ideas I have developed as to how to continually have the WOW factor during the learning situation for which I have targeted its use.
If you wish to create an Aurasma - you will need to have iPhone or iPad to be able to view or create the augmented reality. It is an APP on iTunes or download from the Apps Store. The following is a link on VERY CUTE - YOUTUBE that will explain how to create an Aurasma. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHIxYpBW7sc
I have put together a quick one to show you how it is used in our learning environment.
The Purpose of the Aurasma…
My high school history class (Year 10) have access to iPad. There is one per student and they are familiar with various uses of the iPad and using Aurasma. I am using this augmented reality to introduce the students to their 'Tudor England' project for the end of term. Prior to class I would have on the wall around the room 10 Images of 'Tudor England' - (below is only 1 example)...
All you need to do is -

Text for the Aursma Video
IMAGE 1- As we have been learning in class this semester -pause - Queen Elizabeth the First may have been Protestant - but she was no fanatic.
IMAGE 2 - Her primary focus was not to force adherence to a single religion.
IMAGE 3 - She did - however - wish to heal the divisions in her realm between Catholics and Protestants
IMAGE 4 - Instinctively, she knew that it was in her political interest to appeal to both - that is - even despite the Pope issuing a decree that 'for whomever took Elizabeth out of this world -they would gain 'forgiveness' and eternal life in the kingdom of heaven.'
IMAGE 5 - As we have discussed in class - her treatment of Catholics was relatively mild by the standards of the Reformation Era.
IMAGE 6 What I would like you to do is to investigate the ways in which the reign of Elizabeth I differed to that of
IMAGE 7 - The reigns of her elder sister, Mary
IMAGE 8 - and that of her younger brother, Edward.
IMAGE 9 You can checkout the different options for presenting this project on the group on EDMODO
IMAGE 10 I look forward to seeing them - Good luck
